Schedule variance is the difference between planned and actual progress on a project at a certain time (e.g. Time or earned value). Unlike just monitoring schedule variance at project reviews, ongoing monitoring allows engineering and EPC teams to steer the project back in the right direction before a small deviation causes a significant problem.
